Hamuko shook her head at the suggestion that Akane might have done something she can't remember, rejecting the concept entirely. Whatever mistakes or choices were made, none of them would be Akane's fault for how things were now. People aren't omniscient, and kids especially don't have the life experience to know what to expect.

And most of all, there is nothing she could have done to make Zenkichi as self destructive and depressed as he is now. Not his daughter.
