[MIA... if she's stressing about it, it might be serious, right? Hamuko paused to review her own chat history with him, but they were just last chatting about experimenting with curry ingredients...]
I don't see any hints in our convos, but I can head out and start checking through places. What did his text to you all read like?
[She sighed. There wasn't any way of finding clues out that she knew of.]
[She however sent the screen shot. Reading: im safe, nee-san. i just need some space. please dont look for me or try to track me. sorry about dinner tn]
then he left his phone so I couldn't track it. Something is wrong.
[Suspicious as hell. She'd done that kind of thing a few times when she was younger - but Ren was older, and could get himself in much worse trouble than a little kid running from home. He might've been going down a self destructive path.
Hamuko gets immediately why Futaba is worried.]
I'll chat with Shinji and see if he minds if I bring along Koromaru - we've never asked Koromaru to track, but it's worth trying, imo.
Thanks, I've got cameras running to see if they catch him while I'm out searching.
[She was pretty far from tokyo at this point. She wasn't lost persay, but she wasn't sure where she was at this point. She still needed to search mementos, and now that she alerted everyone she knew, that's where she was going.]
[Futaba was out of the loop about the dog being able to come to mementos. So she was shocked for a bit. However she was also relieved that someone was coming with her. She could focus on their health.]
Every little surprise to help along, at least?? It takes a little bit for Hamuko to gear up and invite Koromaru along - asking Shinji to let everyone know she'd be out looking for someone in Mementos, so her phone might not work for a while.
After getting herself and Koromaru vested up, she arrived, the little shiba wagging his tail eagerly whilst holding a knife in his mouth. He and Hamuko both had matching S.E.E.S. armbands, at least.
Futaba's screen was much more in tune to her emotions than she was herself. It was much harder to hide them, so she lifted it to be on the top of her head. Her eyes looked over the pup. It seemed he was part of the team. She didn't know what role he took though. Then she noticed the knife. This was going to be interesting.
"Hey, I don't really have a lead down here, but I've got a few contacts who might have leads. I'd have to see them alone, and there's no guarantee they'd be helpful. Shadows are just like that." She thought a bit more. "There's probably a space he's just resting, I don't think he'd use all his energy on this."
"Got it - point us in the right direction and we'll get there, then. Koromaru and I will keep the rank and file shadows off of us," Hamuko asserted with a confident nod, Koromaru wagging his tail and letting out a muffled bark through the knife he was holding. "We've never asked Koromaru to track a scent before, but I figure that it couldn't hurt to have an extra sense on our side. Are you up for it, Koromaru?"
She nodded. She still wasn't certain on how the dog was going to do anything, but if she trusted him, she'd trust her.
"There's two down here, both of them are the true feelings of the actualized people. One of them is chained to the ground, he's a long shot. The other has free roam. He like destroying things, but im on his good side. I visit him when im truly upset."
As Koromaru set to sniffing at the ground, Hamuko listened to Futaba's description and nodded. "Morning's Shadow - I've met him. Akane and I helped him get out from where he was chained, but he should be around not far from here anyway. Haven't run into the other Shadow yet," she explained, following Koromaru as he let out a grrf! and bolted down the frozen escalator. He may not know Drake's specific scent, but scent trails of living humans are different from those of shadows.
"The other is a lot more violent. He's got some serious stuff going on in his head." She said, before her eye caught Koromaru running. She let out a little "shit" then followed as quick as she could, it wasn't that her legs weren't used to this, just not used to sprinting like this, dogs were so fast.
"Do you think he has something?" She asked as each leg hit the ground. She was keeping her breathing even so she could go as long as he needed to.
Hamuko wasn't bothering to try and keep up with Koromaru's top speed, at least - the dog ran ahead and stopped at an intersection, sniffing around a bit. Hamuko wasn't too surprised when he came bounding back.
"Right - thought so. This place moves around like Tartarus, right?" she asked, giving Koromaru a quick pat on the head while still jogging so they could find the way down, "I think Koromaru will be able to tell if someone's still on the floor we're on. We probably will have to go pretty deep if Ren's hiding down here, anyway - Koromaru and I will keep the shadows from getting in the way."
She nodded. "Every floor shifts and there's rest stops along the way." If Koromaru can do that, then she could worry about scanning when he does. That would take a lot of pressure off her.
"Alright," she stretched her arms above her head. "I think he'd probably be in either the bottom part of this place, the shadows are pretty strong and are pretty frequent."
"We might not look it, but Koromaru and I have made it to the top of Tartarus - so I know we can keep the stronger shadows in check. Aside from randomly falling through the floor, is there a faster way down?"
That was impressive. She had to give it to them. "We can use my phone to pass through check points. Do you think he could check for his scent in those areas? Then was can take the subways stairs to those five and maybe figure it out. It would have to be areas he's passed through." She held up her phone.
"The rest points are more consistent, right? I think that'll be the fastest way to do it, then," Hamuko agreed with a nod, before whistling sharply, calling Koromaru back to their side.
She nodded. "Yeah, just every few floors, then we can traverse the next five." That was one of the things she liked here more than tarturus. At least they had solid rest points.
The teleporters in Tartarus had their use, but... the subway rest stops in Mementos were a lot easier as landmarks, for sure. And since they're consistent, Koromaru and her can help look for signs of him faster.
